The Project

Project Overview:
I designed a mobile app for a beach-pop music festival, aiming to balance dreamy visuals with clear navigation. Built in Figma, the prototype lets users explore line-ups, favorite artists, check schedules, and navigate maps - all tested and refined for clarity and flow.

Challenge

Festival-goers often face information overload and navigation struggles at large events. The challenge was to design an app that not only displayed the essential information (line-up, maps, tickets, weather) but also conveyed the vibe of the festival while remaining clear, engaging, and easy to use in high-energy, on-the-go contexts.

Approach

1. Research & Understanding the User:

  1. Created a moodboard inspired by beach-pop and paradise aesthetics.
  2. Defined the main colours and created a colour palette.
  3. Defined the festival’s target audience: young, social, and experience-driven attendees who value discovery, atmosphere, and convenience
  4. Established functional requirements: line-up browsing, personal favorites, map navigation, weather, and ticketing.

2. Design Direction:

  1. Built a hand drawn and digital sitemap that focused on simplicity and clarity.
  2. Designed lo-fi design wireframes, keeping the engaging elements such as the line-up page with interactive artist bubbles, encouraging exploration and personalization.
  3. Prioritized consistency through vertical lines and a bottom navigation bar for intuitive flow.

3. Prototyping and Testing:

  1. Developed a clickable prototype in Figma.
  2. Conducted testing through desirability testing as well as a heuristics evaluation, using protocols.
And using the insights from the metrics data to elevate the hi-fi design prototype.
  3. Iterated based on feedback: clearer naming conventions, resized elements, improved navigation hierarchy.

Outcome

Think beach-pop meets usability: I built a hi-fi Figma prototype where festival-goers can scroll through dreamy artist bubbles, pin their favorites, and jump straight to maps and info without getting lost. Testing showed people vibed with the visuals but struggled with labels - so I fixed that. Now, it’s fun, fast, and keeps the focus on the music, not the menus.
